What the numbers say

The fiancé visa figures tell a clear story about the Philippines. Filipino applicants receive more of these visas than any other Asian nationality we track, and the gap is wide, not marginal. English is widely spoken there, and the international dating sites with the most Filipino members were built for exactly this kind of long-distance courtship. When a reader asks us which country produces the most American fiancé visas from dating sites, the government's own tables point in one direction.

The pandemic years need care. When American consulates stopped routine visa interviews, issuance collapsed, and the posts in Manila and elsewhere spent years clearing backlogs. That is why several nationalities show a sharp fall and then a sharp rebound. Those swings measure how many interviews the consulates could hold, not how many couples wanted to marry. Anyone quoting a single year from that period should say so, and anyone looking for a trend should compare the years before the pandemic with the most recent year instead.

Mainland China moved the other way. Issuance to mainland Chinese fiancés has fallen well below where it stood at the start of the decade, even after the consulates reopened. We would not claim a single cause from these tables alone, but it matches what we see on the dating side: foreigners have fewer working ways to meet people in mainland China online, and the specialist sites serving that market are smaller than their Filipino and Thai counterparts.

On the dating sites themselves, the split that matters most is how you pay. Credit-based sites, where every message or photo costs credits, score noticeably lower in our hands-on ratings than flat subscription sites. That is not a coincidence of taste. The credit model rewards the site for keeping conversations going rather than for helping two people meet, and it is the model where we most often see scripted, operator-style chat. The subscription sites, many of them run by the same Australian company, are cheaper per conversation for anyone who messages regularly.

Subscription prices also reward commitment. Paying for a year up front cuts the monthly cost a long way compared with paying month to month, so a reader who is serious about a particular country usually saves by choosing a longer plan on one well-reviewed site rather than hopping between several monthly plans.

The pattern that ties both datasets together is simple. The countries that send the most fiancés to the United States are the countries served by the largest, longest-running subscription sites, and those sites earn our better ratings. The expensive, opaque credit sites tend to sit at the bottom of our rankings.

Methodology

K-1 figures are visas issued by U.S. consular posts in each fiscal year, taken from the State Department's Nonimmigrant Visa Issuances by Visa Class and by Nationality tables (the files were checked on 2026-09-28). They are not petitions, U.S. entries or marriages, and K-2, K-3 and K-4 visas are excluded. "Nationality" is the applicant's nationality; mainland China excludes Taiwan and Hong Kong, which the tables list separately. The State Department's "Asia region" includes South Asia and the Middle East. We extract the numbers with a script and check every year against the table's own totals; where a table has no row for a nationality we show a dash rather than estimate. Dating site figures come from our own review records, which are based on hands-on testing (see our rating methodology). Every number on this page is recomputed from those records on each update.
